Starting today, improved manufacturing and labelling standards are coming to your breakfast table:

🍯 Improved rules on origin labelling for honey
🧃 Juice sugar transparency
🍓 Higher fruit content in jams

It’s a major win for transparency, because Europeans deserve to know what’s really on their table.

All on a beige tablecloth with lace trim. The text ‘Your breakfast just got better’ is written below the items, and a European Union flag is in the top right corner.

@EUCommission Maybe also do something about the ridiculous amounts of sugar that is *required* for jam to be called jam legally. This requirements sits in stark contrast to sugar taxes. Manufacturers desperately want to make jams with less sugar, and they're not allowed to call it jam.

Make it make sense 🫠

@EUCommission my friends. When you have the opportunity. Just buy local. You’ll pay more 20cents but you know where it comes from, you are helping your neighbor and it’s usually way better

@EUCommission Please hire an artist. There are thousands and thousands of creatives looking for jobs. Surely the EC and EU can promote real artisan work and not hand it over to AI slop?

Art, whether it is of significance of our cultural identity and history or just part of our daily lives (like labels, logos signage) represents our strengths and values. Please support it.

@EUCommission Another example of an AI image undermining the message. If you can't be arsed to put together a proper image, just don't use one. AI slop is seriously worse than no image at all.
Also, the alt text is wrong. What a horrible post of a positive message.

Hi @AimeeMaroux Thanks for spotting that! The alt text should now be correct. Rest assured, we don't use generative AI to create our images. We have an amazing graphic design team behind all our visuals.

@EUCommission "Improved rules on origin" we need that for all products, not just honey. Not just place of manufacturing, but also were the materials come from.

Honey: still would like to know if even "just" 1% of the ingredients - and which one - comes from a dodgy origin. Now you don't give us the opportunity to choose between healthy, dodgy and no-go at all.

@EUCommission then please defend and implemented strict rules for GMO labeling! So that consumers can make a choice. With the new GMO legislation you kill of transparency and thus choice!
And while you are at it, ban all patents on living things!

@EUCommission Enjoyable (sarcasm) seeing AI generated image with bee in it as the data-centers are causing environmental damage killing these animals.

At least use the AI labeling you're pushing.

As for the post content, I like more transparency, however, what does "Higher fruit content in jams" has to do with transparency?
That gets me a bit confused there.

@EUCommission

The transparency for honey:
"member states can decide that the obligation to indicate the percentage on the label only applies to the four largest shares, provided these represent more than 50% of the weight of the blend"

For sure that's what's coming. Specially in Germany...

Why not:
"the countries of origin will be indicated on the label in descending order, based on weight; the label will also include the percentage that each country represents in the blend, thereby increasing transparency for consumers"

@EUCommission Great to see this push for transparency extend to everyday food products. The same principle is reshaping the nutraceutical and supplement space too — EFSA's health claims framework has already rejected the majority of botanical health claims for lack of clinical substantiation, and the direction is unmistakable: claims need evidence, not just plausibility. #Transparency #EUCommission #Nutraceuticals #FoodLabelling #ClinicalEvidence
