What @pluralistic has identified in Musk and Broccoli Boys -- among whom I'm counting all of Musk's fans -- is tenets of a religion, and not a particularly convincing or convicting one.
This is the religion of "just pray, and ask Jesus into your heart." It's the religion of "you can't convince me -- I feel in my heart that I'm doing God's will." This form of religion needs no reasonable markers pointing to its so-called truth: if you feel it, it's true --

They're no different from the church leaders of my past who either refused to answer my questions or indicated to the men in my life -- first my father, then my husband -- that they needed to keep me on a tighter leash.
Musk and the Broccoli Boys might or might not be atheists -- I don't know and don't care either way. What I know is that they function exactly like fundamentalist church leaders -- which makes them perfect priests
