@davidrevoy well, *someone* is dying each time
@davidrevoy
That's how the transporter at Star Trek works 😅
@davidrevoy That’s just how teleportation works. 😄
Every see a pixie with PTSD?
Poor, mind-broken little pixie.
@davidrevoy The Prestige was a great movie!
Thinking about versions of this. Wasn't there a scene in Dan Simmons' Ilium/Olympos duology where Caliban devoured the bodies of those who teleported?
@davidrevoy I noticed I'm more likely to read your comics after you changed to the 4 separate images format. Not intentionally, just a subconscious thing. So I guess that test you did payed off
@davidrevoy Wonderful illustration of an underrated aspect of „fast travel“ / „mind upload“. Thank you for sharing this!
Happened to blog about this (in German) about a year ago: https://www.arminhanisch.de/2025/03/kein-entkommen/
@davidrevoy hear me out: two Adventurers with gold dentures.
@oddhack That's a great way to think! (and also now my lore has a problem with conservation of mass in the universe)
@davidrevoy maybe it just drains your Soul a little bit each time through, turning that into mass!
(I don't think this 'verse deserves the sort of dark gaming behavior my RPG group is unfortunately into.)
@davidrevoy great painting skills and great humor. Keep the good job up! 😉
@davidrevoy Reminds me of the One Minute Time Machine. https://youtu.be/CXhnPLMIET0
@alpacamale @davidrevoy Came here to post that 🙂
@davidrevoy I wanna see the tiny little pixie skeleton now
@davidrevoy I first recall encountering this concept in the story "Think like a Dinosaur" by a James Patrick Kelly. A saurian space race generously grants humanity access to its interstellar network of faster than light portal travel. The system scans the individual and transmits all the data nearly instantaneously and the individual is recreated at the destination.
@davidrevoy also works for time travel: https://youtu.be/CXhnPLMIET0?si=etW3KkLExXx31y40
@uhrmann Oh, I loved this short! Thanks for pasting the link here.
@davidrevoy yeah, this is the basis of my objection to StarTrek transporters. *somebody* comes out the other end....
@davidrevoy maybe it just teleports the flesh and swaps out your skeleton for one of the ones lying around there...
@davidrevoy Oof! Star Trek transporters called-out!
@davidrevoy
Reminds me of a Douglas Hofstadter article back in the 90's.
He postulated that teleportation would be a "murdering twin maker" rather than actually transporting anything. He would have LOVED this depiction
@davidrevoy This reminds me of Dr McCoy's argument against transporters from the original Star Trek series.
@davidrevoy
Marginally better than also being followed by the ghosts of all your previous selves
( Un Lon Don, China Mieville )

Was the Star Trek Transporter your inspiration?
@davidrevoy Teleporter clones!
@davidrevoy brillant and creepy! What actually disturbs me a bit, is the fact that, as soon as my ego dissolves, an infinite amount of time passes instantly. Which makes my instant re-appearance in one of the next universes highly probable.
@davidrevoy I hate it when that happens
@davidrevoy like The Prestige but with integrated solution to the problem, awesome
@davidrevoy Many years ago I saw a little cartoon featuring teleport booths. Of course I can't find it now, but it was basically a copier that squashed the original. It raises some philosophical questions, especially if the squasher fails.
Lieutenant Reginald Barclay feels this…
(For non-treckies: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Realm_Of_Fear_(episode) )
@davidrevoy
Who in the effing world shove cadavers and skeletons to the side of the door?
@davidrevoy scifi disguised as fantasy!
@crouton "Science Fiction is fantasy with bolts painted on outside" ~ Terry Pratchett 😉
@davidrevoy 🧙♀️ hehe 🥼
@davidrevoy
It's just The Ship of Theseus problem made flesh.
Literally.
@mcpinson Very interesting you write about it. Because this comic was clearly inspired by me reading about the Teleportation paradox ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletransportation_paradox ) and I was mind blown to read the relation of this concept with the The Ship of Theseus.
@davidrevoy interesting problem with posting panels separately, the link preview shows the last pic (which is kind of a spoiler to the joke)
@baltakatei Im talking specifically about sharing a link, of course it works viewing on tusky 😅
@thebestnom I'm curious what is your client, because it looks like 100% a policy of your platform.
My website only publish this in the header
```
<meta property="og:image" content="https://www.peppercarrot.com/0_sources/miniFantasyTheater/low-res/en_050_miniFantasyTheater.jpg"/>
```
So, your client choose to use the last picture of the series within the post to illustrate the attachement to the post. Please report it to the maintainer! Thank you.
@davidrevoy @thebestnom Mastodon/Framapiaf does have the last image as an og:image:
<meta content="https://stockage.framapiaf.org/framapiaf/media_attachments/files/116/488/818/978/671/398/original/59e7f2721e72b1fa.jpg" property="og:image">

@davidrevoy I shared link to mastodon, not to your website though 😅 Im using Whatsapp and I do wonder if that's client problem or mastodon problem
@davidrevoy @thebestnom The link is to the message on Mastodon, which adds an og:image tag for each image.
The ogp spec (which was made by… Facebook) says to give preference to the first one, though, so it's still on Whatsapp to handle this better.
@davidrevoy Yeah thats whatsapp doin poopoo with links, seen it happen with other stuff
@davidrevoy as it happens, this is also how elevators work
@davidrevoy that's my table top humor i love 😂
@davidrevoy ambiance Hypérion & Le Prestige 😉
@davidrevoy As long as continuity of memory is maintained, and it looks like it is, did they *really* die? Or have they just been jumping from body to body in a public transit system designed by a necromancer?
@LexYeen @davidrevoy
If you haven't read "Mickey 7" yet, I'd highly recommend it...
@davidrevoy oh this is great 😊 !
@davidrevoy I'm impatiently waiting for the P&C cinematic universe crosses over with the Star Trek universe, now. 😁
@davidrevoy a fresh start with old bagage, every time!
